Monki is one of the brands offered by the company Horizon Natuurvoeding (which can be translated as “Horizon of Natural Nutrition”). It is a Dutch company founded in 1978. It specializes in offering a complete range of organic nuts, southern fruits, and seeds. Its headquarters are located in IJsselstein, a Dutch city in the province of Utrecht.

In total, Horizon’s catalog includes forty-four available varieties. Each of its products is offered in packages ranging from 50g to 1000g. This company is quite popular among stores that sell natural foods in the regions of the Netherlands, Luxembourg, and Belgium. Additionally, all its products are labeled with the European organic certification, in accordance with the controls of EC Regulation No. 834/2007.

Horizon’s most recognized products are nut pastes, nut creams, and butters. It is worth mentioning that this company is approaching its forty (40) years of service (1978-2018), which is why it plans to launch innovative products to the market to commemorate its four decades of uninterrupted work. Likewise, it has started a strong campaign to establish itself internationally. For this reason, it has been trying for some time to market itself outside the Netherlands. Its new market focuses are France, Spain, Germany, and it is even looking toward the US market.

Among the product lines offered by Horizon are: “Nut Pastes” (not in pastes), “Southern Nuts” (noten & zuidvruchten), and “Maple Syrup” (ahornsiroop). Additionally, it owns two patented brands. One of them is UNUECO, which consists of organically grown peanut butter. The other is the brand this post is about: MONKI.

The Monki brand initially focused on producing nut butter. However, over time it became Horizon’s most experimental branch, offering innovative types of butters to the public. In this way, it offers market versions of butter made from: tahini (sesame seed paste), pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, a mix of peanut butter with raisins, almonds, and hazelnuts. Its range is broad and reinforces Horizon’s concept as a company dedicated to healthy and natural nutrition.

It should be made clear that Monki, as a brand belonging to Horizon, inherits the tradition of using only products obtained through organic farming. This means its ingredients are grown without herbicides, pesticides, or artificial fertilizers. That is why it holds the EKO quality certification, which means its products have the endorsement of organic products manufactured in Europe.
